WASHINGTON, April 13 - Today President George W. Bush followed his dinner with two scoops of Mama Lucy’s Chocolate Ice Cream. This is not a new thing. Since his inauguration, the President has really enjoyed ice cream a lot!

“Ice cream is the President’s little pick-me-up,” said press secretary Scott McClellan, “He just needs something sweet after dinner. Ice cream is indeed sweet and often consumed after dinner.”

The President had never eaten ice cream before three months ago when his daughter Jenna brought home a pint of Mama Lucy’s Chocolate Chip Exxxtreme and left it on the living room couch. He sampled it and has loved it ever since!

Mama Lucy is a small artisanal ice cream manufacturer in rural New Hampshire, started about 15 years ago at Lucy Chenoweth’s dairy farm near Hanover. When told of the President’s fondness for her ice cream, Ms. Chenoweth replied, “I really like the President and I am really glad that he really likes my ice cream.”

Other flavors the president has tried and enjoys include vanilla, strawberry and Rocky Road. The President, a recovering alcoholic and evangelical Christian, has come out decidedly against rum raisin.

Now, the President's fondness for ice cream is an inside joke in the press room. Several weeks ago, at the National Press Club, when asked about his plan for Social Security reform, the president responded: ""Someone from Vermont sent me this Ice Cream called "Chubby Hubby" It's got pretzels in it. I guess they don't like me that much up there, doesn't they?"
